About
LinuxEMR is meant to be a full re-write of OpenEMR using the outstanding Ruby on Rails framework. With strong emphasis in Object Oriented architecture, Service integration, and DRY practices.
It builds upon the amazing experience of working in such active medical records project and takes advantage by standing on top of giants’ shoulders.
Who’s Helping?
Why re-write?
- Because of this
- As CatBs #3 Says. “Plan to throw one away; you will, anyhow.” (Fred Brooks, The Mythical Man-Month, Chapter 11)
How Open it is?
- Oh boy, as open as possible, all typed code is released under the GPLv3, libraries and plugins used are released under their own previous license, BSD or other open source licensing style.
- No developer is forced onto signing any strange arrangement, you code, is your code, when you contribute is only under GPLv3 or compatible license.
- No dual license business model whatsoever. No “enterprise edition” vs. “comunnity edition”. Just one good code, and a bunch of value-adding services when we are ready for them
How can I contribute?
- Everybody is welcome on being part of the team, at any level of involvement, you don’t need to be a programmer in order to be a very valuable resource for LinuxEMR.
Does it run on Windows?
- This is a Web2 server application, you can open your Firefox browser on your Windows desktop and run it without even noticing that is being served from a Linux server, just exactly as when you Google,
- It is designed from the bottom up to play nice in a Linux server for many reasons, like Asterisk phone system, Hylafax faxing, ImageMagick image manipulation integration, and most importantly because it is Open Source
I mean, can I install it on a Windows server?
- Probably yes, and without a sweat, but I don’t care
- Besides, instead of expending on sofware, get good hardware or/and our services
